Speech to Board of Supervisors 2-25-15

Good evening.

I am David Palanzi, a Leesburg resident and a teacher at Stone Bridge High School.

I am here because I am OPTIMISTIC! This is a trait that has served me well during my 28 years of teaching.

I am also here because I am a FUTURIST. I truly believe in the future of my students and my community.

What is your vision of education? Based on your actions and not your promises or rhetoric I’d say you have none.

How about a quiz? Which adjective do you prefer?
Adequate - Exceptional
Follower – Leader
Average – Extraordinary

For far too long it has been the direction of this board to send our schools down a “let’s just get by” path where our schools are adequate, average. There has be no vision by this board for extraordinary, exceptional, world-class schools. I’ve watched, I’ve read your campaign promises, I reviewed the Loudoun County Vision statement that this board has written.  And It’s time to stop following and to lead our schools in the right - the exceptional - the extraordinary direction. And all it takes is one penny!

I challenge you to be an optimist and a futurist by investing in education.  This will pay the greatest economic dividends for Loudoun’s future. I urge you to adopt a tax rate that will do more than adequately fund our average schools. Loudoun deserves better.

On behalf of myself and OUR children, thank you for your time.
